Dr. Helmer completed an Internship in Zoo, Exotic and Wildlife Animal Medicine at Kansas State University. After moving to Florida (the aspiration of every Canadian), he worked in primary care practices for 15 years before his mid-career crisis when he joined BluePearl in Avian/Exotic specialty practice. He has authored and co-authored several textbook chapters and scientific publications and he is a frequent lecturer at veterinary continuing education conferences. Peter is an at least average cook, loves wine, and tries to keep a fairly large collection of orchids alive
