Identification Of Gene Associated With Eczema In Dogs
A novel gene associated with canine atopic dermatitis has been identified by a team of researchers led by professors Kerstin Lindblad-Toh, Uppsala university and Ake Hedhammar, SLU, Sweden. The gene encodes a protein called plakophilin 2, which is crucial for the formation and proper functioning of the skin structure, suggesting an aberrant skin barrier as a potential risk factor for atopic dermatitis. Report - Chronic Disease Grows with Pets’ Waists
Chronic disease is on the rise in pets, but owners are hesitant to visit the veterinarian to treat existing conditions, according to the State of Pet Health 2012 Report, published today by Banfield Pet Hospital. From 2007 to 2011, the incidence of obesity and overweight in dogs increased 37 percent and increased 90 percent in cats. Overall, 1 in 5 cats and dogs were classified as obese or overweight in 2011. Much Of American Meat Contaminated With Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria
A large proportion of American meat is contaminated with superbugs - antibiotic-resistant bacteria, according to an Environmental Working Group analysis of recently released government tests. Bartonella Infection Associated With Rheumatoid Illnesses In Humans
